Teaching Skills 3: Sequencing Classes

OVERVIEW

October 18 – 20, 2019

Fri 5-8PM • Sat & Sun 9-4:30PM

Location: Journey Yoga, Calgary, AB

Have you ever taken a class and wondered how you got into a pose? Do you wonder how a flowing sequence can bring you into the bliss of savasana? Like a wave of energy that starts off quiet and rises to its climax before sloping quietly downward to a still ending, the arc of a class takes students on a journey of self-exploration, inspiration and integration.
A great yoga class allows students to feel connected to themselves and lends an overall sense of accomplishment. Sequencing a class is as much about knowing your audience, as it is about the strategy, planning and delivery. Learn how to sequence safely and creatively while expanding your repertoire with purposeful sequences that have powerful effects.

Key Concepts

• Bring cohesion to a yoga class from the beginning to the end. Engage your students along their journey and reveal all the hidden gems along the way.
• Explore class planning styles: Gradual arc, peak, double peak, twin peaks, potpourri
• Incorporate key alignment principles of asanas along with modifications and actions
• Teach and pace beginner and mixed level classes
• Identify similar yoga poses, the muscle groups they use, the flexibility required and poses with similar foundation to support your sequences
• Understand when and why to integrate twists, neutral poses and counter poses
• Help students improve stamina to hold a pose, perform a vinyasa, increase muscular strength, and perform a variety of postures and the ability to connect to the inner self
• Effectively allocate time within a class
