Natural Movement

Building a new model for a sustainable you

OVERVIEW

April 20-22, 2018

Fri 5-9PM • Sat 11-6PM • Sun 10-6PM

Location: Define Yoga, Calgary, AB

Yoga is a living tradition and continues to evolve as our understanding grows. One of the wonderful qualities of modern postural yoga is the variety of movement that we explore each time we step onto a yoga mat.
As humans, we are designed to move! However, our modern lifestyles, with furniture and lots of screen time, reduce the amount and variety of movement we get in any given day. Because of this, many of the yoga poses we practice either reinforce movement patterns we have adopted, or are not accessible to us in a safe and functional way because of our modern lifestyles.
Natural Movement brings a new perspective to postural yoga by incorporating the latest in movement science to help you and your students move and practice asana in an intelligent and sustainable way. Join us for a weekend filled with in-depth information that blends biomechanics, asana and alignment in a variety of exercises designed to restore natural movement to our bodies

Key Concepts

Receive hands-on guidance for addressing some of the postural habits and conditions that our modern lifestyle generates. We will explore exercises covered in the book, Move Your DNA by Katy Bowman, M.S. as well as key exercises from Gert Van Leeuwen’s book, Yoga Critical Alignment.
You will also learn how to:
• Explore functional movement from the lens of yoga asana
• Update yoga poses with new anatomy science that supports the long-term health of you and your students
• Address common modern-day sources of stiffness, weakness and pain such as computer neck and shoulders, low back and buttock weakness, knee issues and more.
• Explore alignment of your feet, knees, hips, spine, shoulders and neck independently of the yoga poses and then explore how to incorporate our newfound alignment awareness into the poses themselves.
• Use new props, such as the spinal strap and half cylinder,
• Unpack the differences between yoga alignment and biomechanical alignment
• Expand your awareness and gain insight on your own asana practice
• Understand and appreciate the importance of healthy movement and learn how to incorporate it into your day.
