Just as there are many paths along the journey, everyone’s yoga story is unique. One thing we all have in common when discovering yoga is curiosity. Curiosity is what keeps us intrigued and brings us back to the yoga mat or meditation cushion. To practice each day with fresh eyes draws us into the present moment, and each moment is never the same. Yoga is a practice that has stood the test of time over thousands of years because of it’s depth and relevancy. We all have a body, mind, heart and soul. Yoga is a practice that invites us to explore with an inquisitive spirit, the many layers that make us who we are.

Curiosity can lead a seeker to many places. In the West, asana (poses) tend to take the spotlight. However there is so much more to learn about. The heart of yoga teachings is about inner freedom and liberation, often called enlightenment. It may sound like a lofty goal, and, the ancient yogis have paved a way that provides wisdom through philosophy, codes of living, contemplation, physical practices, energetic practices, and so much more.

At Inspired Yoga Institute, curiosity is a key pillar, as it fuels the love for learning. And in conjunction with the launch of our website, we’ve decided to start a little movement to question our yogis: What inspired you to start doing yoga?

Here’s Alice Hong’s story of what sparked her curiosity!

“What got me hooked on yoga was my curiosity of why I felt so amazing in Savasana. Although I have always been a physically active person, this was the first time I was guided to pay attention to my breath in movement. The practice is effective because it requires focusing the mind with loving attention to felt, embodied sensation. The mind can time travel…the body only knows how to be present. So when I sink into the present moment, the chatter of the mind falls away and what’s left is the simple joy of being.”
